Angle Tees are L-shaped angle moldings that support the ceiling system around its perimeter. They are formed by bending a single angle in a piece of metal and are the most basic form of roll formed steel. The most common type of Angles are formed and finished at 90 degrees. The legs of the “L” can be of equal or unequal length. The larger the Angle, the more stress it can bear.
For the Angle frames encompassing the ceiling system to remain stable, it is vital that the appropriate load and deflection be ascertained. The right Angle system needs to be in place for it to withstand said stress and avoid damage.
Minimum lateral load for interior partitions is 240 Pa (5 psf); for exterior walls 720 Pa (15 psf) to 2160 Pa (45 psf) or greater depending on structural height and topography. In terms of deflection for drywall systems it is advised to limit deflection to L/240 (L = length of the span) and to never exceed L/120. The preferred limit for veneer assemblies is L/360 and should not exceed L/240.
